Before You Book, Verify Who Is Scanning Your Baby
With several elective ultrasound studios in the RGV, moms and families deserve to know who is actually performing their ultrasound. Ultrasound is more than pictures — it requires training, experience, and the right credentials.
Why Verification Matters
Many families assume every ultrasound provider has the same training. In reality, sonographers may have different specialties, experience levels, or credentials. When it comes to pregnancy ultrasound, OB/GYN registration matters.
Proper Training
OB/GYN ultrasound requires knowledge of pregnancy anatomy, fetal positioning, safety, and proper imaging technique.
Right Specialty
A person may be registered in ultrasound, but not specifically in OB/GYN. Families should know the difference.
Transparency
Moms deserve to know who is scanning them and whether those credentials can be verified through ARDMS.
Serving McAllen, Mission, Edinburg, Pharr, San Juan, and families across the RGV.
Our goal is to help local moms book with confidence and understand who is caring for them during their ultrasound experience.
What Does ARDMS OB/GYN Registration Mean?
ARDMS stands for the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. An OB/GYN registered sonographer has met credentialing requirements specific to obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound.
This matters because pregnancy ultrasound requires more than simply operating a machine. It involves understanding fetal positioning, pregnancy anatomy, image safety, and proper sonographic technique.
At Life’s First Portrait, we believe moms deserve to know that the person scanning their baby is properly trained in the area of ultrasound being performed.
Questions to Ask Before Booking
Before choosing an elective ultrasound studio, it is okay to ask questions. This is your baby, your appointment, and your peace of mind.
- Is the person scanning me a registered sonographer?
- Are they registered specifically in OB/GYN ultrasound?
- Can their credentials be verified through ARDMS?
- Who will actually be performing my scan?
- Does the studio clearly explain the difference between elective imaging and diagnostic medical ultrasound?
Credential verification is completed directly through ARDMS. Life’s First Portrait encourages families to verify credentials and confirm that the sonographer is registered in the appropriate specialty for the type of ultrasound being performed. This page is intended for patient education and transparency.
